Our coaching application is now open!
Sam Castiglione began playing disc golf around twenty years ago, after graduating from college. He developed an immediate interest for the sport. At the time he began playing, resources were very limited. He needed to challenge himself to build a practice routine, to develop technique, form, and timing, to excel in the game. Through this journey, he began his professional career in 2008, winning New York States Championships in MPO. He has won over 25 PDGA events and has had numerous podium finishes.
At the same time, he began his other professional career, as a special education teacher. In this setting he developed the unique understanding how to teach to the individual. In both disc golf and his classroom, he focuses on the individual’s strengths and needs in his lessons. This process allows each person to get the most out of the lesson.
He has taken his love of teaching to the disc golf community as well, working with YMCAs, parks and rec departments and schools. He co-founded the Western New York Disc Golf Club, promoting many opportunities for local players to have access to leagues, tournaments, and clinics. He also extended his passion, into the area of course development and design. He helped create and design over nine local courses, one being, the number one rated course in New York.
Being self-taught he has developed an understanding of what is needed to take the game to the next level. He brings this knowledge to his lessons, which focus on the those needs and design lessons to reflect each student's diverse style. Sam has a unique ability to access, evaluate and identify areas that need adjustment to quickly get results and guide them towards self-correction. His coaching style allows the student to feel the reward of the lesson.
Sam currently has scheduling availability in the Western New York area.
