Our coaching application is now open!
My name is Cory Sharp, I am a husband to Tera, father to Kyson & Ellie, step-father to Wil, and radiographer for The University of Kansas Health System.
I consider myself having started in disc golf in 2003 at age 14. It was then that my competitive nature was ignited by the beating I received at the hands of a kid 2 years younger than me. I would take that loss and turn it into the 2007 PDGA Male Rookie of the Year award, which I won over my fellow rookie class, including Paul Ulibarri and Nikko Locastro. Other accomplishments include Open Division victories in 2 PDGA A-Tiers and 14 other PDGA sanctioned events.
I met and befriended Paul Ulibarri at the 2006 USDGC in Rock Hill, SC. He and I became close friends and true students of the game. We spent the next few years pushing each other to reach new heights across the many aspects of disc golf form & technique. We were both very analytical and would watch the best in the game closely. We would pick apart each other’s form and ended up with very similar ideas regarding what works and what doesn’t.
I took a different path that led me away from the game for many years, at least in terms of degree, but have since found new inspiration and am in the middle of a comeback. I have decided to dedicate at least the next few years developing my left, and non-dominant hand to the point that it can match my dominant hand. This process has allowed me to be my own coach and has opened my mind to aspects of the game that I had taken for granted when I was solely playing with my right hand. I have a greater understanding for newer players and can place myself in their shoes because my left hand is, in reality, a new player. This has allowed me to help those seeking to improve in ways that I couldn’t before.
I am excited to share my knowledge and experience in order to help anybody wishing to improve, whether it is more distance, better putting, more finesse & control, the ability to work yourself around a course, or help with the mental game. My competitive nature pushes me to be the best I can be in whatever venture I undertake, and I’m excited to improve right alongside those I coach!
